Pre-Apprenticeship Programme

Awards Event  - Christmas comes early for the little Helpers

Four Pre-Apprenticeship students from The Astley Cooper School got an early Christmas present this week.  They all received a special end of year award to mark the excellent progress they have made in their work experience placements and in their studies.

All four have shown themselves to be model employees and exemplary students since they started on the course in September. They have been at work now for three months and have all taken to it likes ducks to water.  None of them have had a particularly good time at school up to now, but the unique mix of genuine work experience and work based academic qualifications of the Pre-Apprenticeship Programme has seen them take a giant leap into adulthood.
The award is presented for truly excellent skills and characteristics such as punctuality, productivity, communication skills and the ability to take instruction and return high quality results. The supervisors of all the winners have reported that in their opinion these young people are ‘Work Ready’ the highest accolade any employer can bestow.
Pictured with their awards from left to right are Nathan Andrews who has thrown himself into gardening and fixing things at Phoenix Property Services, Tia South who has been putting on the style at Toni and Guy in the Marlowes, Kieran Mitchell who spends his day scientifically testing building materials at RSK, and Ashlin Bailey who is helping to change young lives as a Teaching Assistant at Astley Cooper.
Steven Fowles MD of Phoenix Property Services said, ‘From day one, Nathan has given us nothing less than 100% dedication and commitment. He has never missed a beat working for us. Early in he was happy to stay late if needed. Nathan is now regarded as an important member of our team. We hope he may have a long future with us’.
In the New Year these young rising stars will be hunting for the best apprenticeships available.  The Programme Co-Ordinator Richard O’Brien said, ‘We work our students hard to prepare them for a great career in their chosen field.  We iron out all their creases so they’re ready to hit the shop floor running.  Our top students will be valuable assets in any workplace so if there are businesses in Hemel interested in finding the best apprentices they’d better get in touch soon because they won’t be on the shelf for long.’
The Award-winning Pre-Apprenticeship Programme is unique in the South of England.  It provides 3 BTEC qualifications and valuable work experience to get young people off to a great start in their careers.  Four Pre-Apprenticeship students from The Astley Cooper School got an early Christmas present this week.  They all received a special end of year award to mark the excellent progress they have made in their work experience placements and in their studies.
