Level 2 Hairdressing

VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing (QCF)                                 

Course outline:

This qualification is a vocational qualification for learners wishing to pursue a career as a junior employed or self-employed hairdresser/stylist.  The content of this qualification is comprised of mandatory units including: 

 The art of dressing hair, client consultation for hair services, follow health and safety practice in the salon, working in the hair industry, cut women's hair, colour and lighten hair and shampoo and condition the hair and scalp.  You will also enhance your skills with optional units such as display stock to promote sales in a salon, promote products and services to clients in a salon, create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector and plaiting and twisting hair.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in hairdressing to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to perform your own salon services.

Assessment methods:

Students are continually assessed throughout the course through practical and written tests and assignments.

Further training/development:

Career opportunities as a junior hairdresser/stylist exist in a variety of contexts, including:

- Working in commercial hair salons

- Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

- Working in television, film, theatre and media

- Working on cruise liners

Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a junior hairdresser/stylist, learners may choose to further develop their knowledge and skills by undertaking a technical level qualification in hairdressing at level 3.

Students under the age of 19 are government funded, funding may be available for over 19's depending on circumstances.  Mature students may also be eligible for a government 24+ learning loan - ask for details on application.

Course entry requirements:

Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in hairdressing and/or a successful skills test and interview.

Course duration:          1 academic Year from September
