COVID-19 Isolating and Testing

Thursday 17 September 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am contacting you today to provide you with an update on isolating and testing for symptoms of COVID-19. Currently, we have no confirmed cases of COVID-19 here at The Astley Cooper School.

The Government guidance states that if any member of a household:

“becomes unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia), they must:

  • self-isolate for at least 10 days
  • arrange to have a test to see if they have coronavirus (COVID-19)”

The school does have access to a limited supply of testing kits for students, teachers and staff. The guidance states that:

“these test kits should only be used in the exceptional circumstance that an individual becomes symptomatic and you believe they may have barriers to accessing testing elsewhere. The best and fastest way for students or staff to get a test result is to visit a testing site.”
